Life was good until I heard about engineering.
It turned amazing
after that.
That was
engineering for me.
In other words, I
was amazed as a little boy that there is someone in the world who has the
avenger level power to change the world #EngineersAssemble, to create
something.
I hope most of us
felt great when we see a Tony Stark fighting for world safety and using hi-tech
gadgets in PVR or when we see an Elon Musk launching its own rocket in space;
we want to do something fascinating and we opted for engineering.
I like most of
us, want to create or contribute to a product which can do good to society
because we should do something for it as elders say "One should contribute
to society as we are a part of it".
Everyone knows
what they want and they expect the delivery of same. So, engineering brought a
lot of hopes and dreams for me. I knew what I was signing into.
As an engineer, I
hope I can do something unique - I always wanted to do something unique and out
of box kind of thing. There was Metro Man <Padma Vibhushan E.
Sreedharan>, Missile Man <Bharat Ratna A.P.J. Abdul Kalam> in my curriculum
and reading about them, I thought that one can really be so impressive that you
can create something that you can use for making the world better.
As an engineer, I
hope I cannot be influenced of creating something evil - The idea of atomic
bomb if you think about it, you would wonder that what an engineering marvel it
is. BUT you have to understand that how great a product from the engineering
perspective if it is destructive, one should immediately leave the idea of
that.
As an engineer, I
hope I cannot be a prey of Brain Drain - Last week JEE advanced result was
announced and its topper left the opportunity to study in the best institute in
India because he was already studying in the best institute of world. You see
every time one reads about such eminent personalities; they feel sad that no
one wants to be in their own country and make it better. BUT deep down we also
want that onsite project that we have laid our eyes on from years. And it is
not wrong if you see because it is a reality in developing countries like ours
- professionals move from their native countries to some other country in
search of better job opportunities.
As an engineer, I
hope I cannot be a prey to Mediocrity - If you have watched the movie 'The
Gambler' (2014) starring Mark Wahlberg and Brie Larson, you would definitely
know what I am talking about. In the movie, Mark is playing a professor who
hates being average and hates being one. There is more to the plot but I am not
going to tell you that. So, one should not be mediocre in the field whom he/she
dreams for, I hope you all can agree with this. The amount at which the
colleges in our country producing engineers is unexplainable and also very
high; so, mediocrity is very much possible and most of around us is one of that
lot.
As an engineer, I
hope I can save my planet like Tony Stark - We are coming out of pandemic and
many of us are hoping to never face it again. BUT we all know that our Earth is
not doing great with pollution and global warming. And we are only responsible
for that with our carbon emissions and use of many harmful products (coolants
in ACs and refrigerators, plastics for innumerable uses, etc.) for our comfort.
An engineer with its known skillset must able to combat with this situation
because ultimately, we are developing technology sustainably. I dream of it
because every time I see a report that tells me these are the 25 best places to
live in 2050 and I don't see our Mumbai, Chennai, New York, Paris in that list,
that frighteningly concerns me.
As an engineer, I
hope I can be beautifully creative - Our present curriculum at any stage of our
education does not allow us to be more creative. Masses associate creativity
with only painter, writer, music composer, film maker, basically everyone who
comes in the umbrella of being an Artist. Does an engineer be not creative? If
he is not, how would he be going to innovate and create. (Yes, creativity
includes create in it #NiceObservation) I want to be this.
As an engineer, I
hope I can find good problems from my surroundings - Most of engineering
students really struggle because they fail in this. How one is going to
improve, innovate or create something for society unless he/she does not know
the problems of society. We do it everywhere. During coding, we first
understand the problem, write the code, then debug and test it till our problem
is solved. We all focus on first writing the code and forget about debugging
and testing part which is one of the most important parts of programming.
As an engineer, I
hope I can be never satisfied - Everyone wants to be content. But there is a
problem with contentment that it relaxes and satiates you. And you cannot solve
problems with that feeling. That is why I suppose one plus’s motto is
"Never Settle".
Now you can
understand that one joins an engineering college with such dreams in their eyes
because it changes you (IN A GOOD WAY).
There is a poem
dedicated to
engineers
and their dreams
Who wants to read
them?
Not engineers
not a single
person
Why an engineer
leaves his own country
does not affect
everyone
does not affect
students
does not affect
aspirants
not even to those
6 graders
who are cracking
1.2 crores jobs at an MNC
Engineers face
all
wrath of
employers
thrash of society
frustration of
age
and also
expectation of ourselves
But I hope things
would change
this Hope
this amazing Hope
this frustrating
Hope
